Rose Lake is an easy out-and-back hike in the John Muir Wilderness, part of the High Sierra Ranger District of Sierra National Forest in California. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is about 2.7 miles long with a one-way elevation gain of 539 feet, starting at roughly 9,983 feet and reaching about 10,540 feet at the high point. The trail is natural-surface and allows horses, but not bikes. It is not an accessible route. Sandpiper Lake lies just 0.2 miles away, and the Bear Creek Alternate Crossing Route is about half a mile off. Farther out, Jackass Meadow campground is about 5.3 miles away, and the Merriam Peak climbing area is about 5.9 miles away.
