Eastern Brooks Lake is a short, easy hike on the Forest Service's White Mountain Ranger District of Inyo National Forest, about 0.12 miles from Mosquito Flat Backpacker Campground. The trail is about 0.12 miles long and sits at roughly 10,200 feet, with a high point of 10,237 feet and no elevation gain to speak of, so it works as a quick stop or a short addition to time spent near the camp. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Tuolumne Meadows run to highs around 71°F and lows near 38°F in July, though that station sits well below the lake, so temperatures here run cooler. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, but it is not accessible. Mount Abbot and Ruby Peak both start about 0.1 miles away, and Starr Wall, a climbing area, is about 0.4 miles off.
