Union East is a Forest Service campground in the Calaveras Ranger District of Stanislaus National Forest in California. It sits within the national forest's recreation infrastructure, and the land is managed by the Forest Service. The site is simple, with vault toilets as the only listed amenity. A fee is charged for use. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 80°F with lows in the low 40s and only about two wet days a month. Winter is much colder, with highs in the low 40s and lows near 18°F from December through February. Union Rock Lake is just 0.1 mile away, and Union West campground is 0.3 mile off. Utica/Union Reservoirs, about a mile away, offers lake fishing, and Spicer Reservoir, roughly 1.4 miles away, is a climbing area.
