Forbes Creek Group Campground sits on the southeast shore of Sugar Pine Reservoir in the American River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest, about 13 miles from Georgetown. The Forest Service manages the land, and the site lies within a cedar and pine forest overlooking the reservoir, close to the North Fork of the American River. It offers access to trails and swimming. Vault toilets are the only listed amenity. A fee is charged for stays. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 72°F and October highs around 74°F, while July and August average about 91°F. Forbes Creek campground and the Rocky Ridge hike are both about 0.1 mile away. The Sugar Pine Boat Ramp is about 0.6 mile off, and the Sugar Pine Trail is about 0.8 mile away.
