Big Bend Group Campground sits off I-80 on Old Highway 40 in the Yuba River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest, about a mile behind the Big Bend U.S. Forest Service Fire Station. It's a group campground with two sites, each offering tables, group fire rings and grills, vault toilets and potable water. The Forest Service manages the land, and the site works for both RV and tent camping. There are no RV hookups or amenities, and RV size restrictions may apply. Summer is the warmest stretch here. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Spaulding show July and August highs around 82°F with lows near 47°F, while winter highs typically sit in the low to mid 40s. The Loch Leven Trailhead is about 0.2 miles away, and the Central Area climbing area is just 0.1 mile off. Hampshire Rocks Campground lies about a mile away, and the Salmon Lake Tie Trail is roughly 1.5 miles out.
