Hampshire Rocks Campground sits in the Yuba River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. It's a small, simple base with vault toilets, and a fee is charged for stays. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Lake Spaulding weather station, which sits about 600 feet lower than the campground, run to highs in the mid-80s with lows in the upper 40s in July and August. Winters are cold, with January highs around 44°F and lows near 25°F. Trigantor and Rainbow A, both climbing areas, are under a mile away, and the Loch Leven hike starts just beyond. For another night, Big Bend Campground is about a mile off.
