Front Area is a bouldering area in the Buffalo Ranger District of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest in Arkansas, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among several other climbing areas, with Downhill Area and North Side each about 0.1 mile away and South Side about 0.2 mile away, so it works well as a cluster of bouldering spots to visit together. The climbing here is all bouldering, with eight routes spread across the V1 to V6 range. The easiest are Warm Up Slab at V1 and Double Aretes at V1, while Stilettos is the hardest at V6. Pick Up Sticks is a V5. The area is suited to climbers who want a range of grades in a compact setting. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Deer, Arkansas, run to highs around 70°F in May and 65°F in October, with July and August highs in the low 80s. That station sits about 800 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Hurricane Creek, a canoeing spot about 3 miles away, and the Deer Tower South Loop hike, about 6 miles off, are the closest options for pairing with a day here. Haw Creek Falls Campground, roughly 8 miles away, offers a place to stay.
