The Hood is a climbing area in the Buffalo Ranger District of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest in Arkansas, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Hudson Mountain about a mile away and Land of the Little People and Andromeda each roughly 1.4 miles off. The area offers both bouldering and sport climbing, with 12 routes in total. The sport routes run from 5.9 up to 5.14, and the bouldering grades from V2 to V9. Among the sport routes are Monochromatic Friend at 5.9, Opening Act at 5.10a, and Open Project at 5.14. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Deer, Arkansas, show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 75°F, with July and August peaking near 83°F. Nearby, Sam's Throne and Catacombs are hikes about 3.4 to 3.6 miles away, and the Buffalo River offers canoeing about 6.3 miles off.
