Sawmill is a hard hike in the Alpine Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in eastern Arizona, about 3 miles from the town of Blue. The trail is an out-and-back of about 10.5 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 2,791 feet, taking you from a low point of about 5,592 feet to a high of about 8,381 feet. The trail is on natural surface and is accessible to horses. Bikes are not allowed, and the route is not an accessible trail. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Alpine weather station, which sits at a similar elevation, show May highs around 69°F and October highs around 64°F, while July and August bring the most wet days, about 13 to 15 a month. Several other hikes start close by, including Largo, S Canyon and Lanphier, each about a mile away. Blue Crossing Campground is about 4 miles off.
