Gobbler Point is an expert-level hike in Arizona's Bear Wallow Wilderness, on the Alpine Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The route is an out-and-back of about 5.8 miles with a total elevation gain of 4,255 feet, and the high point reaches 8,768 feet. The trail is managed by the Forest Service, and horses are allowed. The climb starts at a high point of 8,756 feet, which makes it an anchor for the route rather than a destination. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.6 miles, with a grade of 26 percent. Bikes are not allowed, and the trail is not accessible. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at about 9,370 feet run from highs of 71°F in July to 67°F in September, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. The Gobbler Point Trailhead is the trailhead, and the route is open year-round. Plan for about four hours. Nearby, Reno is about 2.5 miles away and Schell Canyon about 4.1 miles. Bear Wallow is about 4.2 miles away. For camping, Kp Cienega Campground is about 7.4 miles off.
