Ash Spring is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the Douglas Ranger District of Coronado National Forest in Arizona, about 2 miles long with a total elevation gain of 289 feet. The trail runs on natural surface and is not accessible, and it is managed by the Forest Service. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Portal show April highs around 73°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August bring the most wet days, about 12 and 13 a month. That station sits roughly 750 feet below the trail, so temperatures on the hike run a little cooler. The Herb Martyr trailhead, about 0.1 mile away, is the parking for this route. The Snowshed Basin Trail and Basin Trail #600 both lie within half a mile. For an overnight stay, Rustler Park campground is about 3.4 miles away.
