Deadwood Block is a bouldering area within Sauta Cave National Wildlife Refuge in northern Alabama, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It sits about 0.1 mile from Sauta Cave and Ripple Effect Boulder, so it pairs easily with those two climbing spots. The area has six bouldering routes, all rated on the V scale from V1 to V6. The hardest is Deadwood at V6, and the easiest is Amateur Night at V1. Wild Bill and Childish Things are both V2, and Gunslinger is V5. The routes were first ascended by climbers including Nolan Fulton, Andrew Hamiter and Will Patterson. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Scottsboro show October highs around 74°F with lows near 48°F, and April highs around 72°F. Summer highs typically reach the upper 80s. Nearby, Little Paint Creek offers canoeing about 8 miles away.
