The Sandtrap is a climbing area in Alabama, about 1.7 miles from the town of Mackey. It sits among several other named climbing areas, so it works well as a cluster destination. The climbing here is all trad, with five routes graded from 5.9+ to 5.10c/d. V-Neck and Sandburger are the easiest, and Harvest Moon is the hardest. The routes include Sand Jocks and Sandburger Platter, and all were done by Shannon Stegg in the 1980s and 1990s. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Gadsden put April highs around 70°F and October highs around 71°F, with summer highs climbing into the mid-80s. Weiss Lake, about 9 miles away, is the closest place for fishing.
