Pantano

Tucked into eastern Pima County, Arizona, Pantano is a ghost town that owes its existence to the Southern Pacific Railroad, which established it as a small railroad community in 1880. Before Pantano took shape, an earlier stop called Ciénega station served the area to the west; the arrival of the railroad effectively replaced it. The town sits between Benson and Vail, and today's visitors reach it via the Marsh Station Road interchange off I-10.

As with many railroad ghost towns, what draws visitors here is less about standing structures and more about the historical footprint and the quiet, open setting of the Arizona landscape. Come with modest expectations for physical remains and a genuine curiosity about the region's rail history.
