Fairbank

Tucked alongside the San Pedro River in Cochise County, Arizona, Fairbank is a ghost town with roots stretching back to 1881. Its rise was tied directly to the railroad — it served as the nearest rail stop to Tombstone, which made it a key hub in the growth of southeastern Arizona during that era. The town took its name from Chicago investor Nathaniel Kellogg Fairbank, who helped finance the rail line and also founded the Grand Central Mining Company, which held interests in the Tombstone area.

Today Fairbank falls within the San Pedro riparian corridor and is reachable by passenger car. Visitors will find historic remnants set against the backdrop of the river, offering a quiet, grounded look at a once-busy stop on the frontier rail network.
