Twin Buttes

Tucked along the eastern flank of the Sierrita Mountains about twenty miles south of Tucson, Twin Buttes is a ghost town in Pima County, Arizona. It takes its name from a prominent nearby hill and got its start as a mining community around 1903, operating for roughly three decades before being abandoned circa 1930.

Very little survives at the surface today. Mine tailings have buried most of the original town site, and the Twin Buttes Cemetery is the only tangible remnant visitors will find. For anyone drawn to historic places, the cemetery provides a quiet, sobering connection to the community that once existed here.
