About this water

The North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River in Pendleton County is a remote and highly productive wild trout stream flowing through the Germany Valley and Smoke Hole Canyon. The canyon section offers spectacular scenery and excellent wild brown and brook trout fishing in a tight gorge accessible only by foot or horseback. The river is known for its prolific hatches and large wild brown trout that hold in the deep canyon pools.
