Sandstone Buttress is a climbing area in Sinks Canyon State Park in Wyoming, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits within the park's own land, and two other climbing areas, The Sandstone and Grade II Wall, lie within a third of a mile, making it easy to pair with them on a single visit. The climbing here is a mix of trad and sport routes, with 11 routes in total. The YDS grades run from 5.6 up to 5.12d, and the hardest of them, New Sensations, is a sport route. Group Grope, a trad route at 5.10b/c, was first climbed by Randy Cerf, Scott Fisher and Mike Allison in 1978, and Ancient Graffiti, a 5.11+ trad route, was done by M. Wendling and G. Heydt. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Lander show July highs around 88°F with lows near 55°F, while winter highs stay around 33°F. That station sits about 700 feet lower than the buttress, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. The North Slope Trail and The Sinks to Rise Trail are both within a mile, and Sinks Canyon Campground is about 2.5 miles away.
