Roof Ranch is a climbing area in the Laramie Ranger District of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in Wyoming, managed by the Forest Service. The area is a cluster of boulders and rock faces, with several named climbing spots sitting within about a tenth of a mile of one another. The Bunker, Boat Rock and The Schoolyard all lie within that close range, so the whole area works as a single destination for a day of climbing. The climbing is mostly bouldering, with 18 boulder problems on record, and some trad routes. The YDS grade range runs from 5.5 up to 5.12-, with the V scale covering V2 to V8. Among the trad routes, Atomic Thrust is a 5.10, Moonsault is a 5.11+, and Squat is a 5.12-. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Laramie run to highs around 81°F in July and lows near 52°F, though that station sits roughly 800 feet lower than the climbing area, so temperatures up high run cooler. Vedauwoo Campground is about 2 miles away for an overnight stay, and the Regolith Trail and Green Mountain Trail are both within a mile for a walk after the rocks.
