Wilson Canyon is a hard hike in Wyoming's Forest Service lands, about a mile from the town of South Park. The route is an out-and-back that climbs from a low point of 6,156 feet to a high of 7,882 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,636 feet over a distance of about 12 miles. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Moose put July highs around 82°F with lows near 44°F, and the station sits roughly 1,400 feet below the canyon's high point, so temperatures up top run cooler. The trail is open from May 1 through October 31. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes. The A and W Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and South Fork Leeks Canyon is about 2.3 miles off. For an overnight base, Curtis Canyon Campground is about 8.5 miles away, and the Snake River offers river fishing about 6 miles out.
