Sheffield is a hard hike of about 14 miles on the natural-surfaced trail in Teton National Forest in Wyoming, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back, starting at about 6,900 feet and rising to about 9,200 feet. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Yellowstone Lake show July highs around 72°F with lows near 39°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures up high run cooler. Sheffield Campground sits just 0.4 miles from the trail. The Berry Fire and Looking Forward hikes are each within about a mile and a half, and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway North Turnout is about 2.7 miles away.
