Location: Access the trailhead from the top of the aerial tram. Teton Village is about one mile south of Grand Teton National Park on the Moose-Wilson Road (WY 390). Notes: Visitor services are extensive in Teton Village including motels, restaurants, shops and activities. Bears may be active any place and at any time-travel in groups, make noise and carry bear spray. Backcountry camping requires a permit-pick one up at a backcountry permits office. Destinations The aerial tram (fee charged) whisks hikers up 4,139 vertical feet in 15 minutes to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain at 10,455 feet. It is all downhill from there! Trails provide access the Teton Crest Trail and the southern Teton Range. The ski resort has several short loops hikes near the summit. Hikers looking for a longer day hike may continue down Granite Canyon and loop back to Teton Village. Backpackers can continue north toward Marion Lake or south toward Teton Pass. Trails are not recommended for hiking until snow has melted, usually by late July. Fee charged. Marion Lake 11.8 miles RT, 9 hours, 4000 ft total climbing, Strenuous. Hike through alpine and subalpine terrain to Marion Lake and return to the tram. Granite Canyon 12.3 miles total, 7 hours, 4200 ft total descent (with 450 ft climbing), Moderate. Start at the top of the tram, hike into the park, down Granite Canyon and return to Teton Village. Name Origin Fur trappers called a mountain-ringed valley a "hole." Named Davey Jackson's Hole for fur trapper David E. Jackson who worked for the Rocky Mountain Fur Company. The name was later shortened to Jackson Hole.
