Big Spring is a moderate hike on Forest Service land in Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest, within the Greys River Ranger District. The nearest town is Hoback, about 11 miles away. It is a 5-mile out-and-back route with a one-way climb of about 2,100 feet, starting at roughly 7,200 feet and reaching about 9,350 feet at the top. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 72°F in July and lows in the mid-30s, and the trail's higher elevation runs cooler than that station's figures. Winter is harsh, with January highs around 26°F and lows near -6°F. Bikes and horses are both allowed, and the trail surface is natural. Nearby, Bailey Creek and Phosphate are both under a mile off, McCain Cabin is about a mile away, and the Little Greys River offers canoeing about 2.4 miles out.
