Shaved Box Canyon is a climbing area in West Virginia, about 1.6 miles from the small community of Deegans. It sits right next to two other climbing areas, First Buttress and Second Buttress, each about 0.1 mile away, making it easy to link several crags in one visit. The climbing here ranges from traditional to sport routes, with grades from 5.7 up to 5.13a. The most common style is sport, and the routes run from moderate to challenging. Among them are "Just Shave It" at 5.12b and "The Red Vadge of Courage" at 5.13a. "Did I Mention It's Huge?" is the only traditional route, graded 5.7. September is the most comfortable month for a visit, with typical highs around 75°F and lows near 50°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station. The station sits at a similar elevation to the canyon, so its figures should be a fair guide to what to expect at the crags. Other places to explore are close by. Meadow River Gorge Trail is 0.8 mile away, and the Meadow River Rail Trail is about 4.4 miles off. For an overnight stay, Battle Run and Summersville Lake Shelters are both a little over 5 miles away.
