Moonchild Boulder is a bouldering area in Coopers Rock State Forest in West Virginia, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. It sits among a cluster of climbing areas, with Big Blocks, Sunset Wall and Mad Butcher Block all about 0.1 mile away. The area has five bouldering routes, all rated on the V scale. The easiest is Starboy at V0, and the hardest is Moonstruck (aka Lunacy) at V9-10. Crescent Moon is V3, and Moonchild is V2, with the latter named after the area and first climbed by Ray Weber in 1991. For timing, September is a comfortable month, with typical highs around 77°F and lows near 56°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station in Morgantown. That station sits about 800 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. The Underlook Trail and the Cimbing Access Trail are both about 0.4 mile away, and the Sunset Wall Trail and Rock City Trail are each about half a mile off.
