The Pit is a bouldering area in Coopers Rock State Forest in West Virginia, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. It sits among a cluster of climbing areas, with In-Between Area, Big Blocks and Sunset Wall all about 0.1 mile away, and Moonchild Boulder at a similar distance. The climbing here is all bouldering, with five routes spread across the V0- to V3 range. The UFO and Rawdawgin on the UFO are both V2, and Pulchritudinous is V3. The names are colorful, with Baptized In Piss and Urophili-crack rounding out the list. For timing, September is the most comfortable month, with typical highs around 77°F and lows near 56°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station in Morgantown. That station sits roughly 860 feet lower than the Pit, so temperatures at the boulders run cooler. The Cimbing Access Trail is about 0.3 mile away, and the Sunset Wall Trail and Underlook Trail are each about 0.4 mile off.
