C: Talus Area is a bouldering area in West Virginia, set within the Bluestone Lake Wildlife Management Area and managed by the Army Corps of Engineers. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots, with several boulders and boulder problems within about a tenth of a mile. The area is a bouldering destination, with 16 routes all rated on the V scale. The easiest are V0- and V1, and the hardest is V7. Among the named routes are Front Slab L (V0-), The Chub (V3) and Raven Riley? (V5). The boulders are close together, so it's easy to string several problems into a single visit. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Bluestone Lake show May highs around 76°F and September highs around 79°F, with fewer wet days in September than in May. Winter is cold, with January highs near 42°F and a few snowy days each month from December through February. Other climbing is right next door. J: Zion Boulder, C2: 211 Spot Boulder and G: Alligator Skin Boulder are all about 0.1 mile away. For a change of pace, the Pipestem Knob Trail is about 6 miles off.
