Stone's Throw is a climbing area in the Wenatchee River Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in Washington, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of other climbing areas, with Veteran's Club and JY Crag about 0.1 mile away and Eight Mile Area at the same distance. Eightmile Group Site, a campground, is 0.2 mile off, making it easy to pair a night on the ground with a day on the rock. The climbing at Stone's Throw runs from about 5.8 to 5.10+, with sport and trad routes both represented. Five routes are listed, including Blink (5.8, sport) and Audrey 2 (5.8+, trad), and the hardest is Unknown 10+ (5.10+, sport). The area's name comes from the route Stone's Throw (5.9, sport), first climbed by Gordon Briody and Viktor Kramar in 2001. For timing, late spring through early fall is the most comfortable stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Leavenworth put June highs around 77°F and September highs near 78°F, with July and August highs around 87°F. That station sits about 800 feet lower than the climbing area, so expect it to run cooler on the crag.
