Metaline Falls is a sport climbing area in northeastern Washington, on Bureau of Land Management land within the Spokane Border Field Office. It sits in a cluster of trails and campgrounds about 0.3 miles from the Portage Trail, and its climbing is all sport style. Nine sport routes make up the area, ranging in grade from 5.6 to 5.12d. The easiest is the unnamed route on the far left, at 5.6, and the hardest is Gun Show, at 5.12d. Bonkers and Public Pretender are both around 5.10a, and Move Date Body Fo Me is a 5.10d. Summer is the most comfortable season to visit. Typical averages from the Boundary Dam weather station, about 9 miles away, put July and August highs in the mid-80s with the fewest wet days of the year. Winter is cold and snowy, with highs near freezing and around 10 snow days a month from December through February. Portage Trail is the closest hike, and Sullivan Creek Trail and Elk Creek Trail are both within about 3.5 miles. For overnight stays, West Sullivan and Mill Pond campgrounds are each about 4 miles away.
