Deer Leap is an easy out-and-back hike of about 1.7 miles in Vermont's Rochester Ranger District, part of the Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests. The trail crosses the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and is managed by the Forest Service. The climb is rolling, with a high point of 2,760 feet and a total gain of 587 feet over the course of the trip, which takes about an hour. The trail starts at roughly 2,466 feet and reaches its highest point around 2,760 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.64 miles in, with a grade of 28 percent. The route is on natural surface, and bikes and horses are not allowed. The open season runs from May 1 to November 1. Sherburne Pass and the Sherburne Pass Trail are both within half a mile, and the Velomont - Pesky Cairn hike is about 0.9 miles away. Climbers can find Regular Boulder about 1.6 miles off.
