Baker Peak is an easy out-and-back hike in Vermont's Big Branch Wilderness, on a woods road in the Manchester Ranger District of the Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail connects to both the Lake Trail and the Long Trail system, making it a convenient link for hikers exploring the broader network. The route is about 1.9 miles long, with a total climb of roughly 1,459 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.38 miles, where the grade reaches 25 percent. The peak sits at 2,661 feet, and the trail returns to the starting point at about 1,945 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Peru, about 5 miles away, show July highs around 75°F with lows near 56°F. That station sits well below the peak, so temperatures up high run cooler. Nearby options include the Lake hike about a mile away and the Griffith Lake Trail at 1.1 miles. For an overnight stay, Peru Peak Shelter is 1.5 miles off, and Otter Creek, a canoeing spot, is 1.9 miles away.
