Flat Head is a bouldering area in the Flaming Gorge Ranger District of Ashley National Forest in Utah, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among several other climbing areas, with Nip Tuck, Cadillac/Stretch Mark and Flintstones all about 0.1 mile away. Deer Run Campground is 0.4 mile off, and Cedar Springs Campground is 0.7 mile away. The climbing here is all bouldering, with six routes on record. The grades run from V3-4 up to V8+, and the Flat Head Project is listed as a project at V8+. Van Dyke Brown is a V4 boulder, and Flat Head Stand is a V5. The Flat Head Arete Project is a V6+ project. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall are the sweet spots. Typical averages from the Flaming Gorge weather station, about 2 miles away, show May highs near 67°F and September highs near 75°F, while July averages around 87°F. Winter brings highs in the mid-30s and a few snowy days each month from December through February.
