East Hellgate is a sport climbing area in the Salt Lake Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Utah, about 0.4 miles from the Alta weather station. It sits among several other climbing spots, with Melting Mud West and The Melting Mud Wall each about 0.1 mile away. The area has four sport routes, all rated between 5.10a and 5.11b on the YDS scale. Pocket City is the easiest at 5.10a, and Hellish Inferno is the hardest at 5.11b. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from the Alta station show July highs around 73°F with lows near 50°F, while winter highs stay around 30°F. The Cardiff Pass Trail starts about 0.2 mile away, and Albion Basin campground is about 2 miles off. Lake Solitude and Lake Blanche, both fishing spots, are within about 3 miles.
