China Cave Main

China Cave Main is a climbing area in northern Utah, within the Logan Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the area sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with China Wall about 0.1 mile away and Fucoidal Quartzite about 0.3 mile away. That makes it easy to pair with other crags in the same stretch of the Logan district. The climbing here leans heavily on sport routes, with 38 sport routes and 3 trad routes among the 41 listed. The grade range runs from 5.5 to 5.14b, with the median at 5.13a. Super Tweak, a 5.14b sport route, is one of the hardest, and Train-Fest at 5.13a is another notable climb. Late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show highs around 67°F in May and 76°F in September, while July highs reach about 88°F. The station sits about 650 feet lower than the area, so temperatures at the crag run a little cooler. Wood Camp Campground and Preston Valley Campground are both within about a mile, and Tab Hollow is a hike at a similar distance. For time on the water, the Logan River is roughly 3 miles away.
