Thaynes Canyon is a mountain biking route in the Mount Olympus Wilderness, part of the Salt Lake Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Utah. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route lies within designated wilderness. The climb is about 1.7 miles long, rising from roughly 5,850 feet to about 7,720 feet, a total gain of 1,846 feet. That makes it a steep, short ride, with the high point well above the starting level. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Alta, at a similar elevation, show July highs around 73°F with lows near 50°F, while winter highs stay around 30°F. Several other destinations sit close by. The Desolation Trail and Porter Fork hikes are within about a mile, and the Stitches Wall and Church Fork Wall climbing areas are about 1.3 miles away. For an overnight stay, Jordan Pines Campground is about 5.4 miles off.
