White Oak Trail is an easy hike in Tennessee's Rugby Designated State Natural Area, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The trail is an out-and-back route of about 3.5 miles, with a total elevation gain of 660 feet. The climb is steepest at about 1.7 miles, where the grade reaches 17 percent, and the trail starts at roughly 1,280 feet, rising to a high point of about 1,400 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Allardt show October highs around 68°F with lows near 46°F, and May highs around 73°F. That station sits about 245 feet higher than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run a little warmer. The hike takes about 1.5 hours. Cox Trail is about 0.3 miles away, and Allerton Trail and the Massengale Homestead Loop Trail are within a mile. Paddlers can reach Black Wolf Creek about 6 miles off.
