Allerton Trail is an easy hike of about 1.2 miles in Tennessee, set within the Rugby Designated State Natural Area on land managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The trail is an out-and-back, and the round trip covers about 2.5 miles with a total elevation gain of 423 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.9 miles in, with a 10% grade. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Allardt show October highs around 68°F with lows near 46°F, and May highs around 73°F. That station sits about 210 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. Several other trails start close by.
