Live Wire 1 is a moderate out-and-back hike in Tennessee, about a mile from the community of Elder Mountain. The trail is a little over 3 miles long, with the high point at about 1,790 feet and the low point near 1,250 feet. The climb starts at roughly 1,290 feet and totals about 1,360 feet of gain for the round trip, with the steepest stretch coming around 0.7 miles in at about 17% grade. Fall is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run around 78°F highs and 61°F lows in September and about 67°F by day and 51°F at night in October. That station sits higher than the trail, so temperatures on Live Wire 1 run a little warmer. Several other outings are close by. The Small Intestine Trail is just 0.2 miles away, and the Switchyard and Little Chunky hikes are each about 0.7 miles off. Climbers can find the T-Wall East area roughly 1.2 miles from the trail.
