o. Chain Reaction Buttress

Chain Reaction Buttress is a climbing area in Tohickon Valley Park in Pennsylvania, about a mile from the center of the park. It sits among several named climbing areas, including p. Obnoxious Partner, l. Hawk's Nest and r. Far Face, all within a tenth of a mile. The buttress itself is a cluster of rock with a range of routes, from trad and top rope to a single sport climb. The area offers eight routes, six of them traditional. The grades run from 5.4 to 5.10b, with Chain Reaction at 5.10a and Nameless Arête, a sport route, at 5.10b. The hardest of the trad routes is Blind and Deaf, a top rope at 5.9, and Deaf is Beautiful is the easiest at 5.4. Several of the routes have first ascents listed, including Chain Reaction, done by Colin Lantz and others in October 1984. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to climb. Typical averages from the nearby Bucksville weather station show May highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F, with July warming to about 85°F. Chief Running Deer Trail is about 2 miles away, and Mimi's Trail and Yellow Trail are each roughly 4.5 miles away. The Delaware River, about 9.6 miles off, offers fishing.
