J. Toothpick Wall is a climbing area in Oregon's Rocky Butte Natural Area, a city-managed natural area. It sits among several other climbing spots, with k. Breakfast Cracks, i. Mean Street and l. Wall of Shadows all about 0.1 mile away. The area has 23 routes, with top rope and trad styles making up the bulk of them. The YDS grades run from 5.3 to 5.12a, and a few sport routes are also listed. Vertical Therapy, a 5.9 top rope, was first climbed in 1986 by Joe Parsley and Dennis Hemminger. Zenith, a 5.12a top rope, was first climbed by G Lyon and M Pixler in September 1988. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 82°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-40s and rain on 20 days a month.
