Palmer Mill Road is a mountain biking route in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, managed by the Forest Service. The ride is an out-and-back of about 3.7 miles, with a total elevation gain of 1,495 feet. The route starts at roughly 1,339 feet and climbs to a high point of 1,914 feet before returning to the start. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.8 miles in, where the grade reaches 17 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs in the upper 70s with only five or six wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the low 40s and rain on most days. That station sits well below the route, so temperatures on the climb run cooler. The Loop Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Donahue Creek Trail is about half a mile off. Climbers can head to Rat Cave, about 2.5 miles away, and paddlers will find Gordon Creek roughly 4 miles from the route.
