Lower Dan's Trail is a short, easy mountain biking ride in Oregon, set within the Philomath Unit and running about 1.6 miles round trip with a total elevation gain of 384 feet. It starts at roughly 530 feet and climbs to about 708 feet, with the steepest section at about 0.6 miles in, where the grade reaches 18 percent. The trail is an out-and-back, so you return the same way you came. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. A nearby weather station in Corvallis records typical July and August highs in the low 80s with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-40s and rain on more than 20 days a month. That station sits several hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the climb run cooler. The Lower Horse Trail is just 0.1 mile away, and Middle Dan's Trail is about 0.3 mile off. Dan's Trail, a hiking route, is about half a mile away, as is the Main Chip Ross Loop for mountain bikers.
