Verdun is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Middle Fork Ranger District of Oregon's Willamette National Forest, about 3.4 miles long with a total elevation gain of 1,703 feet. The trail starts at a low point of about 4,429 feet and climbs to a high of about 4,914 feet before returning. The route is on natural surface and is open to both horses and bikes, according to the Forest Service's trail records. The trip takes about two hours, and the trail is open year-round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Odell Lake, at a similar elevation, show July and August highs around 73 to 74°F with only about three wet days a month. Winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow days from December through February. Nearby, the Bunchgrass Tie Trail #3558 and the High Divide Trail #3572 are both within about 3 miles. South Fork Salt Creek offers canoeing about 2.6 miles away, and Blue Pool Campground sits about 6 miles off.
