Farewell is a hard hike in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, within the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District. The route is an out-and-back of about 6.6 miles, with a total elevation gain of 3,066 feet. The trail starts at a low point of about 4,950 feet and climbs to a high point of about 6,074 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 1.4 miles in, with a grade of 18 percent. The trail is on natural surface, and bikes are allowed. Horses are not. The Forest Service manages the land, and the hike is open year-round. Plan for about 3.5 hours on the trail. The Mrazek Trail lies just 0.1 mile away, and the Triangle Hill Loop and North Fork Trail #24.2 are each about 1.3 miles off. Climbers can find Cougar Buttress about 1.7 miles away.
