Thielsen Creek is a 4.4-mile out-and-back hike in the Mount Thielsen Wilderness, part of the Diamond Lake Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest in Oregon. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is rated moderate with a one-way elevation gain of 822 feet. The route is natural-surface and not accessible. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 1.4 miles, where the grade reaches 15 percent. The high point is about 6,950 feet, and the trail starts at roughly 6,155 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Crater Lake show July and August highs around 69°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the low 30s and rain on most days. Howlock Mtn. sits just 0.1 mile away, and the Howlock Mountain Trail and Spruce Ridge are both within about 1.5 miles. For an overnight base, Diamond Lake campground is about 3 miles off.
