Tanner Lake is a 5.7-mile out-and-back hike in the Red Buttes Wilderness, part of the Wild Rivers Ranger District of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forests in southern Oregon. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is rated moderate. The route starts at about 5,119 feet and climbs to about 5,303 feet, with the steepest stretch at the beginning, where the grade reaches about 23%. Horses are allowed, and the trail is natural-surface. Bikes are not, and the trail is not accessible. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Sexton Summit show July and August highs around 77°F with only about two wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the low 40s and rain on roughly half the days. Kings Saddle and Fehley Gulch are both within about 2 miles. Bolan Lake and Bolan Mountain Lookout are about 2.3 miles away.
