Summit Lake Run is a hard out-and-back hike in Oregon's Willamette National Forest, within the Middle Fork Ranger District. The route is 16.8 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 1,707 feet, and it starts and ends at about 5,715 feet. The high point on the trail is 5,715 feet, and the climb is steady, with the steepest stretch at about 6.1 miles in, where the grade reaches 14%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Odell Lake, which sits about 900 feet lower, show July and August highs in the low 70s with only about three wet days a month. Winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow days from December through February. The trip takes about 6.5 hours. Summit Lake Campground and Timpanogas are both about 1.8 miles away, and the Windy Pass Trail is about 1.6 miles off. Paddlers can reach the Middle Fork Willamette River about 6 miles away.
