Stetson Trail is an easy, out-and-back hike on Bureau of Land Management land in Oregon's Prineville Deschutes Field Office, about 2 miles from the town of Prineville. The route is roughly 4.3 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 217 feet, so it makes a short outing for anyone already in the area. The trail starts at about 3,063 feet and reaches a high point of 3,160 feet before returning. The steepest stretch comes around the 1.2-mile mark, where the grade reaches about 14 percent. The climb is gentle overall, and the trail is natural rather than developed. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Redmond show May highs near 69°F and September highs near 79°F, with summer highs climbing into the upper 80s. Other trails sit close by, including River Access Trail about 0.4 miles away, Wrangler Road at 0.7 miles and the Fat Rabbit Loop Trail at 0.9 miles. Climbers can find Cline Falls Bouldering about 2.5 miles off.
