Shadow Falls is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the North Umpqua Ranger District of Oregon's Umpqua National Forest, about 1.2 miles long with a total elevation gain of 536 feet. The trail starts and ends at roughly 2,150 feet, rising to about 2,400 feet before turning back. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.47 miles in, with a grade of about 9 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 84°F with only about three wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-40s and rain on 17 or more days. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The hike is open year-round and takes about half a day. Bikes are allowed on the natural-surface trail, and the route is not accessible. Cavitt Creek, a canoeing spot, lies about 0.4 miles away, and Plusfour Creek is about a mile off. Climbers can head to Lost World Spires, about 4 miles away, and Cavitt Creek Falls Recreation Site offers camping about 5 miles out.
