Pine Lakes Alternate is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness, within the Eagle Cap Ranger District of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is about 0.66 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 396 feet from the low point at 7,869 feet to the high at 8,188 feet. The climb is gentle overall, with the steepest stretch at about 0.12 miles in, where the grade reaches 29 percent. The hike is quick, taking about half an hour, and the trail is close to the Pine Lakes Trail, about half a mile away. Nearby, the Cornucopia Trail #1868 lies about 1.4 miles off, and the Kettle Creek Trail is about 2 miles away. For paddling, Eagle Creek is about 6.4 miles away, and McBride Campground offers camping about 6.8 miles from the trail.
